Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of heroes, and a gripping narrative showcasing celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences increasing in power within the urban setting.
Warning: Key plot points for the latest installment of the new season are included.
The Warrior Group Introduced
The latest chapter ended with a dramatic pause and introduced the first table of adventurers who will separate from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, distinct from the remaining groups.
The combat-focused team features Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Given 13 cast members, it was obvious from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
Hence, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who prefer a classically intense fight-heavy narrative style where diplomatic options are few and far between.
Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the events of the third episode make it clear why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the team understands precisely where to head next after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise started the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, entering the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.
The traitor then settled his debts and ran away to a secure base in the remote area, above the urban center, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each character has a individual motive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as the companion and best friend, wants vengeance.
- The adventurer is familiar with the region and warns that it is a dangerous place.
- The warrior and The cleric, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to eliminate the target and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could assist the group access locations they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are sought by the powers that govern the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:
- Thimble and Kattigan are known criminals.
- Tyranny and The healer betrayed the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This leaves them few options but to head to the remote area in pursuit of the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
From the latest episode’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight participants to round up the Seekers and Strategists tables.
Fans can anticipate discovering which characters will be where in the story’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on October 24.
